WHO Begins Cholera Vaccination for One Million in Borno State


The World Health Organisation, WHO, and the Nigerian Government has concluded arrangement to vaccinate close to one million people against cholera outbreak.

 

The vaccinations will cover those over the age of one year in Borno State, WHO Representative in Nigeria, Wondi Alemu said in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday. more than 915,000 people in the state are targeted to be covered by the initiative.

A total of 915,005 doses of Oral Cholera Vaccine to the country in collaboration with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, a coalition of developing countries and donor governments, according to Alemu. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and the Borno Ministry of Health have also been involved to make the vaccine available at no monetary cost to affected populations.
