Lionel Messi finally found his magic last night as he grabbed a much needed hat-trick to see off a stubborn Ecuador team and lead his country to the World Cup after Chile who were previously ahead of them on points lost to Brazil 3-0 to see them lose out in the qualifying race.

 

Robben retires from National Duty.

Netherlands failed to qualify for the World Cup despite beating Sweden 2-0 as their opponent move on by goal aggregate and Arjen Robben who will be no doubt distraught after scoring both goals and yet dropping out announced his retirement from country football after making 96 appearances and scoring 37 goals.

Sadio Mane ruled out for six weeks.

After being substituted early in Senegal’s win over Cape Verde, reports showed that Liverpool will have to do without Mane due to a hamstring injury he sustained in the qualifiers and will miss their encounter against Manchester United.

 

USA crash out of the World Cup.

For the first time since 1986, the USA national team will not be playing in a FIFA World Cup after they failed to beat Trinidad & Tobago. Trinidad & Tobago went into the match with the knowledge that they would not qualify no matter the result but yet for bragging rights sake, they beat USA 2-1.
