Mobile policeman shot dead at for IGP’s residence in Coomasie

A mobile policeman was shot dead, while another sustained injuries during an attack on the residence of Ibrahim Ahmadu Coomasie, former inspector-general of police, in Katsina state.

The two attackers, who reportedly went there on a motorcycle, opened fire on the two policemen stationed at the gate of the residence. Eyewitness account, according to the Vanguard newspaper, reported that the gunmen arrived the GRA residence on motorcycle about 7pm and bombarded the house main gate with gun shots, although were repelled by the armed police guards. The sources added that it was during the shoot out that a police man died and the other one injured.

Although they did not gain entrance into the house, the attackers were said to have escaped with the rifle of one of the policemen.

A neighbour told NAN that the former IGP and his family members were safe.

 

The corpse of the deceased policeman was deposited at the mortuary of Katsina General Hospital, while the other injured mobile policeman received treatment at the hospital.

Besen Dabiya-Gwana, police commissioner in the state, did not respond to several telephone calls, but Isa Gambo, the command’s spokesman, said the police were conducting operation on the matter.
