Cheyenne Amber West, 25, and her friend were shopping in Walmart in Florida when they were caught trying to carry out the theft.
The pair had been trying to get away with paying for the video game controllers, a laptop and other items for less than $5.00. They went to the clearance section and put reduced price stickers on them. When they came to the self-service machines, they scanned the barcodes and were about to pay just $3.70 for the items when a security guard spotted them. Staff added up their items and told them they should have paid $1,825.20.
West was charged with felony grand theft and shoplifting, the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office said. She reportedly told cops: “The computer is for my husband. Since he just got me a Coach purse, I figured he deserved something nice as well.” Surprisingly, despite the theft, West was able to pay her $3,000 bond and was released from jail ahead of a court appearance in December.
