IPOB And Military On Collision Course Over Anambra Gubernatorial Election.

Members of the Independent People of Biafra group took to the streets of Onitsha in Anambra state to march and they made videos that have been circulating online, that contains members speaking brashly and without control, issuing threats of death regarding the upcoming election in the State on November 18.

There threats were all based on the simple sentence, “If you vote, you will die” as they announced that they will not run from the Nigerian Government and her forces who are already on ‘their land’. They also demanded that the Federal Government produce their leader Nnamdi Kanu who has not appeared in the media for a long time since the alleged siege of his house sometime in October and other members of the group who were in different prisons across the country.

The group’s media and publicity secretary, Emma Powerful spoke to PUNCH reporters in a telephone interview saying:

“Today in Onitsha, we broke the python Buratai, Ohanaeze, Obiano and Igbo governors brought to our land. Anybody doubting the resolve of IPOB under the supreme command of Nnamdi Kanu is mistaken.

“We will put Anambra State on lockdown on November 18. This is a taste of what is to come. Nigeria should be prepared.” He also said that the action will force the Government to arrange for a referendum to grant the Biafran people independence as they could not go on voting people who had been the cause of their problems.

However, the police have reacted to the march as having no effect on the plans that were already in motion for a successful election in the State, as they warned that members of  the group with the intent of disrupting the election should refrain from showing up that day as they were ready to deal with the group.

The Army also made a similar comment that the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army were on alert and had troops in place to keep the peace in the area in check. It was also revealed that the Operation Python Dance II that  ended on October 14 was to sharpen the military’s skills and master the area.
