In the early hours of today, there had been chaos reported from the Anambra State Secretariat of the Independent National Electoral Commission as workers fled to safety after an alleged bomb news.
Although the Police Public Relations Officer, Nkeiruka Nwode has denied hearing of any news of such there are reports that the people working in the building had heard of a bomb planted near the gate of the building, the workers however begged to remain anonymous as one said that he could not wait for the election to be done and left in the past because of the fear of the IPOB members.
The IPOB members had taken to the streets last week to issue threats about boycotting the Gubernatorial election or the masses who turn out to vote on that day will forfeit their lives. Emma Powerful who is the group’s director of media had stated that instead of the election, the Government should have arranged for a referendum to decide on where the future of those in favor of a separation lie.
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Nwachukwu Orji, also denied the being aware of such an occurrence but the members of the press who visited the office noted that bomb experts were on the scene and some policemen too were seen around the building.
The governorship race witnessed a debate between those in the race for the mantle of leadership yesterday and as the election draws closer the confrontation between the IPOB intent on stopping the election and the military looms heavily.
