Recall that we reported that the governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha recently sworn in 28 state commissioners in the state including a newly created commissioner for Happiness, a role filled by his sister, Ogechi Ololo. The unfamiliar role unsurprising has raised a lot of dust as most people have no clue what role the ministry is meant to fulfil.
So, we are interested in this short interview Ololo granted to the BBC in a bid to explain what her job entails.
She says her ministry will focus on policies that make people happy though she admits “happiness can mean anything to anybody.”
She says: “For some people, happiness means having food on their table, some it’s about school, some it’s about roads, some it’s about security.”
Isn’t that duplication of roles? Maybe hers will be a super-ministry overseeing other ministries with overlapping functions.

The commissioner also took to Twitter to defend her appointment and admonished her critics who don’t understand to “keep quiet, read and research.”
