Lagos State Child Protection Unit rescues 14-year-old girl from torture by her ‘guardian’

A 14-year-old girl has been rescued from her abusive “guardian” after a concerned citizen alerted the Lagos State Child Protection Unit.

It’s one of those stories you hear that make one’s blood boil, and you wonder whether some people are human beings or just wild animals. It blows the mind how any person can inflict such pain on any child under whatever circumstances. Deep wounds on the girl’s body and only God and the perpetrator know what severe pain the young girl must have undergone.

The victim, Unwana Emmanuel, had been under severe torture for 16 months since she started living with her supposed guardian, simply identified as Mummy Chidera, the PM News reports. An anonymous concerned citizen reported her situation to the Child Protection Unit of the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development, who then went to rescue the poor girl. She was battered with scars all over her body inflicted upon her by an unrepentant and wicked guardian, who presumably thought she was hitting a wall and not a child this past 16 months.

Unwana, who resides at 6, Alamu Close, Surulere since July 2016 relocated to Lagos from Akwa Ibom due to her parent’s inability to provide her with an education, leaving her in the care Mummy Chidera who had since then continuously abused her physically and at some times delayed her going to school.

She was immediately taken to the Juvenile Welfare Centre, while Mummy Chidera had been charged to court.

Hopefully, the poor traumatised girl will get the help she needs going forward.

    • @kazeem that’s because I’m oversees, they have a law probihiting child abuse and beating of your children.
I guess you want to say Nigeria should adopt such policy.
The only problem is that nigerian children are more stubborn, they can hardly be talked into deviating from something that won’t benefit him or her

    • @aladenika,the husband wasn’t mention on the news, maybe she’s not married or divorced.
But the main thing is,some women when they find out their husband dosent like them beating their house help or their helper, they will pretend to love the person and once the husband leaves for work, she will rain beatings on her or him

  10. I am of the opinion that the husband if staying in the house where the crime was carryout should also be charged to court

  15. This is a lesson for parents out there. Take care of your children yourselves and don’t sell them to slave for your selfish self. Wish the girl well and hope her become successful

  16. I also to an extent blame her parents. Why have a child you can take care of? And why we’re they no checking on their child or even call to check if she was faring well

  17. Justice must be served on mummy Chidera. This is totally barbaric. What has the poor girl done to deserve this? And mummy Chidera has her own children

    • Imagine what they did to a 14years old girl assuming if it is their own daughter or son I don’t think they are going to maltreat them live that.

      • She didn’t do it to her own children because she has and with little doubt, I don’t think any of her children will have such marks
