In case you haven’t heard, a Sabrina the Teenage Witch reboot is coming to Netflix, more than two decades after Joan Melissa Hart took on the role of Sabrina Spellman in the widely beloved sitcom.

Rising star Kiernan Shipka has been tapped to follow in Melissa’s footsteps, and the spinoff will be based around Archie Comics’ The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

So how does Melissa feel about passing on her broom, grimoire, aunts and even pet familiar, Salem to the newest teenage witch in town?

She tells E! News exclusively at her fitting for the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Red Dress Collection runway show she’s “not involved in the new Sabrina,” but looks forward to tuning in.

It’s an Archie comic so the rights reverted from my company, Heartbreak Films, back to them,” Melissa explains. “It’s a totally different show.

I think what they’re doing is smart, doing the darker version. I think it’s going to be more like Buffy the Vampire Slayer than the Sabrina that most people know,” she adds.

I approve. Nothing like mixing a strong magical brew of the light, hilarious and adventurous nature of the Sabrina we knew with the dark, dangerous and scary badass of Buffy the demon hunting, ass-kicking vampire slayer a lot of people strive to be.

Well, I’m gradually counting the days till then. This was a show I watched in its original days. I also read every book in its name. So, yes I hereby appoint myself the unofficial critique and expert of all things Sabrina The Teenage Witch related.

One more thing, wouldn’t it be nice if Peter Dinklage was cast as the popular witty familiar cat, Salem? I feel only he can do justice to that role – and with the dark spin that they’re gonna put on the reboot. Come on, he’ll be a gift that just keeps on giving.
