It’s not fiction, it actually happened. There’s a money-swallowing snake on a rampage somewhere in the country, and that snake allegedly swallowed N36m from the offices of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (Jamb).

Well, that was what an employee, Philomena Chieshe, of the examination board said happened to some money, of which she couldn’t account. Gobmashed doesn’t describe it. Chieshe is employed in the Makurdi office of the board.

Jamb isn’t buying the explanation and has now suspended the staff according to the head of information of the board, Fabian Benjamin. Benjamin tells Punch that the board has invited security agencies to investigate the matter.

He says: “She has been suspended and she is going through all other disciplinary procedures while an investigation is ongoing on the matter. Her claim was that a snake came into the office and swallowed the N36m proceeds.

The missing money was discovered after auditors were invited to take an inventory of sold and unsold scratch cards and to recover the generated money.

It was learnt that Chieshe explained in her statement that a “mystery snake” sneaked into JAMB accounts office and made away with the N36m cash. She said she could not account for N36m made in the previous years before the abolition of scratch cards. However, in the course of interrogation, Chieshe reportedly changed the narrative, saying that it was her housemaid who connived with another woman, Joan Asen, to “spiritually steal the money” from the vault in the accounts office.

Better than Big Brother 3 and we’re staying in tune on this one. EFCC dare not mess this up. By the way, it is the present writer’s opinion that Chieshe couldn’t have acted alone, EFCC better wise up to that. Snake and spirituality my foot. Next.

I don’t believe this crap! This is all politics. That snake analogy is a complete myth. Some apex chairpersons of the board must have stolen the money and spent it.
