While of recent, there has been some uproar over the brutality and inhumane treatment of Nigerians by SARS and other security operatives in the country, that doesn’t seem to deter the police from continuing their usual harassment of law-abiding citizens going about their legitimate businesses.
A group of SARS officials stopped the Marvin record singer thinking he was one of the Lagos yahoo boys not knowing he is a respected musician.
The timely intervention of Reekado Banks, Ksolo and Basketmouth made the operatives realise they have been harassing a pop star all along.
According to an eyewitness, Sars operatives stopped a random vehicle on Freedom Way, Lekki Phase 1, thinking the driver was a yahoo boy. After a routine check, they found nothing implicating, and resorted to seizing the phone of the driver. They insulted and attempted to assault him physically. How traumatising!
One can’t help but be perplexed (angry as well) with the unfounded assumption by police that every well dressed young man riding a fancy car must have gotten those by fraud? Police should better go after the real criminals, if they are in doubt who those are, a good starting point is Lai Mohammed’s published list of looters, methinks.
