Nigeria conceded two goals hugely due to poor co-ordination when defending corner kicks and quite frankly never looked like they were ever going to find the back of the net.
When all is said and done, one can say that the tactics of the Gernot Rohr were very questionable. After the game, he had a few things to say:
“I think the organisation was okay. We didn’t concede from normal play, we conceded from set-pieces
“Our system was okay. We cannot play with three when there is only one centre-forward, so we played with four because Croatia had three strikers. What we were missing today was to be more professional on set-pieces. Each game is different, we will see for the next game. We know we can play with three centre-backs but today was not that day.”
On Alex Iwobi, he says: “Iwobi deserved to start the game, he had big work to do defensively against the right-back, he did it well, he had to work a lot, perhaps he was missing the energy for his offensive game.
“He did well, it was not his fault we lost the game.”
For Nigeria to have any hope of qualifying from Group D (the group of death) the Eagles will have to step up their game because the two teams they have to play next (Iceland and Argentina) are no walk in the park.
Did people actually think they were going to win….the success of our jerseys don’t represent anything about how we play…
