The All Africa Music Awards hosted by Akon in Lagos yesterday was lit up with stars as all of Africa’s finest from across the nation gathered to celebrate themselves and others who made 2017 a year to remeber with tremendous talent and dedication.
The highlight of the award was surrounding Wizkid as he repeatedly beat arch-rival Davido in a sort of Ronaldo-Messi contest. The Starboy CEO walked away with three awards in his bag including: Song of the Year for Come Closer feat Drake, Best Male Artist (West Africa) and Artist of the Year.
But the show did not surround him alone, as Minister Lai Mohammed was spotted in attendance and the funniest moment happened when Sheyi Shay tripped over her gown and fell, but to her credit, she brushed off the incident to continue her classy performance.
Wande Coal’s ISKABA with DJ Tunez also received a reward as it was crowned the Best African contemporary song and YCEE’s Juice won in the Africa Hip-Hop category. 2Face also won the Africa Raggae Award for his track Holy Holy.
Mavin’s Songstress, Tiwa Savage was named the Best West African female artist and Simi who took the world by storm with her powerful lyrics won the award for Africa Best Songwriter.
Twitter has been awash with strings of tweets that are directed at the under fire Mr. Eazi and many have been making jest that he didn’t win an award because he had no nationality.
Emtee surprisingly trumped AKA for the best Southern African artist and as expected, Eddy Kenzo was named the best artist from Eastern Africa.
More of these awards are available on the AFRIMA Twitter page.
