Ghost alert: South African lady rides a taxi with an aunt, several years after her death

Yes, you read the headline correctly.

The present writer isn’t a fan of the superstitious and credits herself with some solid measure of common sense. Nevertheless, stories such as the ones narrated below are not unusual especially among Africans and perhaps in Asians as well?

The thing that makes such stories hard to swallow is that they are usually experienced by a lone figure who most times asks that their word be accepted at face value. The thing is, without proof, it’s damned well difficult to do that though many do believe the stories. Just as some believe a South African lady who narrated the principal the ghost story below. The lady claims to have taken a ride on the same taxi with her aunt who died several years previously.

According to a Twitter user Msakazi (@MpumiMlambo2), she was 16 years old when the incident happened. Her aunt, who she had dearly loved, had died some years back rode the same taxi as her. Msakazi says she didn’t tell anyone about the incident as she didn’t think they would believe her. She said the dead aunt alighted at some point during the journey while she herself continued to her destination. She also declared that the incident freaked her out.

Her tweet:

My aunt died when I was still in primary school. She was like my mom, I truly love her. A few years after she died, I got into a taxi with my aunt in it. I was scared to tell people about this because I knew they wouldn’t believe me. It wasn’t a look alike, it was her.

Naturally, some curious Twitterers asked for clarifications, and she replies:

We didn’t chat you guys, I was 16 and was seeing a dead person. I was scared but I was also heartbroken. I love her so so much, I was with her a week before she died. She is like a mom to me.

She was sitting in front of me (2nd row), I was right behind her. Ngidlulise imali kuyena, ngabheka phansi (I handed over money to him, looked down.). She got off first. I can’t put it to words man, I was torn.

I’m not trying to scare you or anything. I just wanted to know if anyone else has ever experienced such. My own mom doesn’t know about this. That’s how freaked out I was.”

That the story sounded incredulous does not make it false or true although common sense dictates there must be some other explanations other than the one Msakazi offered. Who knows whether her mind was playing tricks on her, making her see things she wanted to see? After all, she admitted she loved this aunt very much. Or perhaps the lady she saw was another person entirely, a doppelganger to her aunt? If only Msakazi had spoken to the “ghost” it would have helped clear all the doubts.

Meanwhile, some users also shared their own ghost stories:
I went to a cousin’s party a year after my granny passed on. They dished up for us, as I was about to eat my granny pushed me so bad that the plate fell out of my hands. I couldn’t explain what happened. I couldn’t even tell people that it was granny coz everyone knew she was dead.”

My dad got into a car accident after knowing him for a year. This may sound weird but we always pray together every night. He always kneels, listens to me then utters the words,”help me look after her for as long as she may live, even when she can’t see me anymore.”

My friend is renting a house in Midrand, she says sometimes at night she sees a woman standing at the corner looking down not even harmful, she says the woman is probably the old owner of the house and she is probably looking for something or her Spirit probably still lingers on.”
