‘God never lies’ says Nigerian man who nearly committed suicide

Sometimes life hits us hard and we think that the only way out is to take our own life and end it.

But would taking one’s life end really end it all? The writer is in no position to answer that question. But what the writer does know was that the trauma would be great for the loved ones of anyone who willfully took their own life. The family may never recover from it. If you doubt it read this Quora thread where people speak of experiences of those left behind after a family member committed suicide.

So, while suicide might have ended it for the person who indulged in the act, it may well be the beginning of a life of hell for those they left behind. With odds stacked high towards that possibility then, would anyone who loves their family (especially someone who also have children) knowingly and willfully commit suicide? Would they still go ahead with the act knowing that their decision will forever scar the people they would be leaving behind? Food for thought.

Life can be cruel, everyone knows that and no one wants to be part of the statistics – that’s  our hope, prayer and wish. But hoping, praying and wishing is one thing, and reality is another. And sometimes, we might just be tempted to end it.

Please stay that thought! Just as life throws hardships, it could throw lovely surprises as well. Your time could be at hand.

So, when Twitter user @olusola__ narrated how he nearly took his only life due to the hardship he and his family were facing after he lost his job and his son needed surgery. And how it seems no one was going to help and he lost all hope and he decided to end it all by taking his own life. And how on the night he nearly committed the act he fell asleep and woke to see two missed calls. And how one of the calls was from an old friend who he hadn’t heard from for a long. And how that friend extended some financial assistance to his family, which made him realise that Providence was always aware of his situation. He came to a realisation of how selfish and ignorant his attempted suicide was.

A grateful and humbled @olusola__ says of his experience:
See ehn, it doesn’t matter what you are going through, you see this God, He sees you, He cares about you, He says He’ll never leave or forsake you, through every shadow and every mountain… And He never lies. When He says it, He means it.”

We are really happy with how things ended this time. But imagine a different scenario where @olusola__ had gone ahead and committed suicide in his living room. Close your eyes and imagine the horror the wife and children would have beholden the next morning. It’s unimaginable what their lives would have become thereafter. What pain, what hurt, maybe even self-blame. Certainly, no wife, children or anyone deserves such. So, the writer is happy for the exhaustion that claimed @olusola__ for some sleep.

Read the emotional tweets:

I’m married with three children, I lost my job about two years ago and I searched for a new one to no avail. Things were really hard and at some point, we couldn’t even feed, I kept going around asking for help… Then sometime last year…
Sometime last year, my last child who is just one had an issue with his s-----m and needed surgery, we were asked to pay #150, 000. I didn’t have a single dime on me. I ran from pillar to post but nothing came out of it. Everyone gave different stories…
So one night, I couldn’t bear the whole thing anymore, so I decided to take my life. I waited for my wife and children to go to bed, I bid them goodnight and after I had made sure they were asleep, I took the rope, went to the sitting room and sat on the sofa…
I decided to wipe off everything on my phone before hanging myself, but while I was looking at the phone, I decided to just rest my back and somehow I slept off (I don’t know how that happened)slept from 12am-3am, woke up to two missed calls on my phone, both unknown.
First thing in the morning he asked his bro to transfer 200k to me, just like that, though I still haven’t gotten a job, now I know that I have a God who sees me and cares deeply for me… I asked him if I could share his story and he said it was okay.
See ehn, it doesn’t matter what you are going through, you see this God, He sees you, He cares about you, He says He’ll never leave or forsake you, through every shadow and every mountain… And He never lies. When He says it, He means it.
