Suspected burglar stuck in a window and had to be rescued by police

It was like a scene in a Hollywood movie

The burglary suspect was stuck to the extractor for seven hours and had to shout for help from passers-by. The incident occurred on Thursday at a chicken takeaway restaurant in Handsworth, England.  West Midlands Police reports that the suspect is a local man, age 45. He was eventually freed from the extractor in an operation that included the police and the fire service.

The police tweeted the incident on their handle: “Here’s what we found when we were called to a burglary in progress today.”

Response officer PC Matthew Willocks said:

The extractor unit had been removed and the suspect had climbed in to the extractor outlet at around 2am. He was completely stuck and couldn’t move at all.

The fire brigade had to come in and use the jaws of life to pull back all the extractor casing to release him.

In its tweet concerning the incidence, the Rapid Response uUnitof the Police has this sage advice for would-be burglars:

#dontgetstuck if you’re trying to break in. 5 hours later shouting help #triptocustody by all means”

The suspect was taken to hospital for a check-up and has been arrested on suspicion of burglary:
