After much speculation that the country’s film regulation board might prevent the movie from showing in the communist country, the movie is finally scheduled to show in cinemas in mainland China on 30 November 2018.
The date is coming three months after it has been released in some East Asian territories. It was released in Singapore – where much of the film is set – on August 22, in Hong Kong on August 23, and in Taiwan on August 24.
Crazy Rich Asians is the first major Hollywood film with a predominantly Asian cast. The movie has grossed about $230 million worldwide, according to movie data website Box Office Mojo.
The movie is based on a best-selling novel about Singapore’s wealthy elite that promotes Asian ethnicity and culture.
