Premier League Roundup: Tottenham thrash Leeds as Lacazette brace cements Arsenal’s resurgence

Here is a summary of the Premier League matches that took place on Saturday, 2nd January 2020, Tottenham Hotspur beat Leeds United and Arsenal dismantled Sam Alladyce’s West Brom with an impressive display in the snow.

Tottenham Hotspur beat Leeds United 3-0

After their Fulham clash was postponed due to COVID-19 breakout in London, Tottenham Hotspur returned to action against Leeds United. The newly-promoted Premier League have some impressive results under their belt going into the match.

Leeds United had thumped West Brom and Burnley just recently. However, the attacking duo of Harry Kane and Heung-min Son ensured the game was past the visitors in the first period.

England’s Harry Kane smashed home a penalty to open his scoring accounts for 2021 before setting up Son. Towards the end of the game, Son whipped in a cross that Toby Alderweirled turned in.

While Tottenham’s 3-0 win against Leeds United sees them go third, Jose Mourinho will be unhappy that Doherty was sent off in the 90th minute for a second bookable offence.

Brighton share points in a six-goal thriller against Wolves

On Saturday 2 January 2021, Brighton & Hove Albion and Wolverhampton Wanderers provided Premier League fans with an entertaining game.

The hosts had taken the lead in the 13th minute thanks to a goal from Aaron Conolly. However, Wolves had other plans. Romain Saiss equalised six minutes later and then they forced a second goal in the 34th minute.

Ruben Neves converted from the spot to put Wolves two goals ahead. The game was not done turning on its head, however.

Just as the match restarted, Maupay converted his own spot-kick for Brighton & Hove Albion. With a point within reach, the hosts kept pouring forward. They eventually got their reward when Lewis Dunk drew them level in the 70th minute.

The game eventually ended 3-3 as both teams share the spoils in what was a fiercely contested affair.

Lacazette hit the double for Arsenal

A third consecutive win for Arsenal sees the struggling gunners rise to 11th on the Premier League table. Keiran Tierney, one of Arsenal’s brightest youngster, ensured they started the game on a strong foot with an early goal after he waltzed past defenders into the West Brom box to whip a stunning curler just past the diving goalkeeper and into the net.

Another Arsenal youngster, Bukayo Saka doubled the lead five minutes later. West Brom struggled all through the game but the second half did not provide them with any respite.

Alexandre Lacazette fired two goals within four minutes of each other to give Arsenal another emphatic win. Keiran Tierney notched an assist for the last goal and has been getting much deserved praise for his performance.

The only other Premier League match saw Crystal Palace beat Sheffield United 2-0.
