‘A Nasty Boy’ magazine and Alexis Okeowo’s ‘A Moonless, Starless Sky’ made it to Vogue’s list of what to read this fall

Vogue magazine asked its editors what they’re reading this fall (autumn), and the list features two Nigeria literary works.

Richard Akuson’s ‘A Nasty Boy‘ magazine that challenges gender norms in the country’s fashion scene and a collection of stories written by Alexis Okeowo,  ‘A Moonless, Starless Sky: Ordinary Women and Men Fighting Extremism in Africa‘, are the two Nigeria works that made the list.

The choices were that of Fashion News Director, Chioma Nnadi. Speaking about Okeowo’s book, Nnadi said, “(It is) a book that sheds light on the untold stories of the women and men who are fighting extremism on the continent. There are several stories in the book, one of which is a Nigerian girl who escapes Boko Haram. It’s non-fiction, but written in a way that’s totally appealing to a fiction-lover like me.”

On Richard Akuson‘s @A Nasty Boy’ magazine the editor said, “I’m really interested in the new voices and stories coming out of Nigeria right now. There’s a new Nigerian magazine called A Nasty Boy, which is doing a lot to open the conversation about gender norms in fashion in Nigeria. That’s pretty radical, given the political climate and the culture there.”#
