Nigerian author Oyinkan Braithwaite’s book My Sister, the Serial Killer has been shortlisted for the 2019 Women’s Prize for Fiction.

The shortlist was published on the organiser’s website.

Others works that made the cut includes:

  • The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker
  • My Sister, the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite
  • Milkman by Anna Burns
  • Ordinary People by Diana Evans
  • An American Marriage by Tayari Jones
  • Circe by Madeline Miller

According to the Women Prize for Fiction websites, “the Women’s Prize for Fiction is the UK’s most prestigious annual book award celebrating & honouring women’s fiction.

Founded in 1996, the Prize was set up to celebrate originality, accessibility & excellence in writing by women and to connect world-class writers with readers everywhere.”

This year’s list features a previous winner of the Orange Prize for Fiction (Madeline Miller, for The Song of Achilles), a winner of Orange Award for New Writers (Diana Evans, for 26a), one previously shortlisted author (Anna Burns, for No Bones) and one debut author, Oyinkan Braithwaite.

This year’s winner will be announced on the 5th of June 2019.

Update: The prize was won by Tayari Jones for American Marriage.
