Bank Accounts Not Linked To A BVN To Be Closed- FG.

The Federal Government has moved to close down every bank account that:

  1. Is not linked to a BVN.
  2. Do not meet with the bank’s know-your-customer requirements.

Premium Times reported this after Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court of Abuja granted the request of the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami.

Banks listed among the deposit banks in the country that will comply with the directive to release the account details of such bank accounts as mentioned in 1 & 2 above to the Government are as follows: Access Bank, Citi Bank, Diamond Bank, Ecobank, Fidelity Bank, First Bank, First City Monument Bank, Guaranty Trust Bank, Heritage Bank, Keystone Bank, Skye Bank, Stanbic IBTC Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Sterling Bank, Union Bank, United Bank for Africa, Unity Bank Wema Bank and Zenith Bank.

The Banks have also been directed to publish the accounts in national newspapers to alert the public with a 14-day notice to either comply or forfeit whatever funds their accounts may hold. The CBN was directed to appoint an official to examine all the details submitted.
