Former Real Madrid president, Lorenzo Sanz, dies after contracting Coronavirus

Lorenzo Sanz was the president of Real Madrid Football Club between 1995 and 2000.

The former president of the football club lost his life due to the Coronavirus and this was confirmed by his son, Fernando.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Lorenzo San Duran writes: “My father has just died. He did not deserve this end in this manner. One of the best, most courageous, hard-working working people I have seen in my life. His family and Real Madrid were his passion.”

Sanz signed players such as Roberto Carlos, Clarence Seedorf and Davor Suker during his time in charge of the 33-time Spanish champions.

He lost the 2000 presidential election to Florentino Perez, which sparked Real’s big-spending Galactico era.

Sanz’s son Fernando, 46, played for Real Madrid from 1996-1999 before spending the final seven years of his career at Malaga.

Meanwhile, the total number of confirmed Coronavirus cases in Nigeria is now 22, the minister of health has announced. Lagos State appears to be the epicentre of the disease with 17 active cases. The state has now banned all gatherings of more than 50 people. All schools have also been ordered to close, effective Monday, 23 March 2020.
