Lil Nas X talks backlash following his coming out as gay [Video]

American rapper Lil Nas X has joined the rank of gay celebrities to come out of the proverbial closet.

The rapper confirms his sexuality in an interview with BBC Breakfast, Friday, where he spoke about the backlash to coming out as gay.

The Old Town Road rapper had hinted about his sexuality earlier in the week in a series of tweets highlighting his lyrics and the artwork on releases of his songs.

I kinda revealed it,” he tells the BBC Breakfast when asked about his sexuality. Pushed on what he had revealed, he replies: “That I’m gay,” he shares. “How big of a deal is that?” he continues rhetorically.

The rapper, however, admitted he had considered never coming out but had a change of heart.

“Is it something that I was considering never doing ever, like taking to the grave or something?” He says. “But I was like, I don’ t want to live my entire life – especially how I got to where I’m at, not doing what I want to do.

I’m also, I feel like, opening the doors for more people.”

Asked whether he expected any negative reactions to the news, the replies:  “Oh, I’m already getting it.

He continues: “I used to be that person being negative. I’m not angry or anything [about it], because I understand how they just want that reaction.”

Following his appearance, the Atlanta-born rapper posted a tweet in which he called on his fans to “listen closely” to the lyrics of his song C7osure (You Like).

The song, taken from his debut EP 7, talks about needing to be “free” and includes the lyrics: “This is what I gotta do, can’t be regretting when I’m old.”
