African Union Commission releases calendar for 6th AFRIMA event

The African Union Commission (AUC) has formally unveiled the 2019 All Africa Music Awards, tagged, 6TH AFRIMA, calendar of events at the AU headquarters, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

AFRIMA, in partnership with the African Union, is a music property that recognises and rewards the work and talent of a myriad of African artists from the old to the new generation of musicians. It also stimulates conversations among Africans and between Africa and the rest of the world about the potential of the creative arts for real humanizing enterprise on the continent, contributing significantly to social cohesion, national, regional and continental integration as well as sustainable development in Africa.

A statement signed by the Acting Director, Social Affairs Department, African Union Commission, Mr Machacha Shepande, says the first activity on the continental awards event calendar is the online submission of entries, while the final event in the calendar would be the main award, a four-day entertainment extravaganza.

Check out the summary of events leading up to the main awards:

    1. Wednesday, 15 May to Friday, 2 August 2019: Online portal opens on www.afrima.org to African music professionals for submission of entries. Submission is open to qualifying professionals living either in Africa or diaspora
    2. Qualifying songs are those produced or released between 1 August 2018 to 2 August 2019. African music artists, managers, producers, record label owners, recording companies, video directors, Disc Jockeys, Choreographers/dancers, publicists and entertainment/music journalist are eligible to submit their works or submit on behalf of their clients in any of the 36 AFRIMA award categories
    3. Tuesday, 6 to Wednesday, 12 August 2019: 13 members jury selection
    4. Tuesday 13 August 2019: Announcement of the 6TH AFRIMA Nominees’
    5. 19th August 2019, the AFRIMA Public Voting process will open to the academy of voters, African music fans and followers around the globe which closes 24 hours before the main awards ceremony. Voting would be monitored and audited by a reputable International Auditing Firm
    6. The award ceremony takes place from 6 to 9 November 2019.

Furthermore, according to the statement, the main awards ceremony is a four-day fiesta of music, glamour, Afrocentricism and entertainment. It will be preceded by Welcome Soiree, AFRIMA Music Village, the Host City Tour, the Africa Music Business Summit, and the exclusive Nominees Party.

Other build up activities leading up to the main awards ceremony include conferences, stakeholders meetings, festivals, speaking engagements, University Campus Concert and courtesy visits to heads of governments and leaders of institutions in corporate and government sectors across the five regions of Africa to achieve an all-round engagement with all relevant AFRIMA stakeholders.
