British ITV axes The Jeremy Kyle show after participant dies of suspected suicide

The British ITV has axed The Jeremy Kyle Show following the death of a guest who took part in the programme.

Steven Dymond was found dead on 9 May a week after filming the show, during which he took a lie detector test.

During his appearance, according to reports from audience members, the 63-year-old fell to the floor crying after failing a lie detector test that said he’d been unfaithful to his fiancée, Jane Callaghan.

In a message left for his son, Carl Woolley, Dymond apparently continued to uphold his innocence over the cheating allegation. He tells the Mail Online: “I called after he got home from filming the episode. He was distraught over the break-up of the relationship.

He was adamant that he did not lie. He was so upset that he wasn’t making much sense, but he just kept repeating, ‘I haven’t cheated, Carl, I swear I haven’t cheated.’”

Following the news of the death, The Jeremy Kyle show was immediately pulled off the air and filming ground to a halt until further notice. All previous episodes were also removed from the ITV Hub, and it was reported that Jeremy thought ITV was “waiting for an excuse to axe the show,” according to the Metro UK.

In a statement, ITV’s chief executive, Carolyn McCall, said the decision the permanently pull the plug on the tv show was a result of the “gravity of recent events.” She also confirms the media house would continue the “review of the episode of the show.

ITV’s statement in full:

Given the gravity of recent events we have decided to end production of The Jeremy Kyle Show.

The Jeremy Kyle Show has had a loyal audience and has been made by a dedicated production team for 14 years, but now is the right time for the show to end.

Everyone at ITV’s thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of Steve Dymond.

The previously announced review of the episode of the show is underway and will continue.

ITV will continue to work with Jeremy Kyle on other projects.”
