FBI to screen mails sent to Empire cast following homophobic attack on Jussie Smollett

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in America is working with the crew of Empire cast to find out who sent Jussie Smollett a hateful, threatening letter just days before he was attacked in Chicago.

TMZ reports that the bureau is also on high alert to prevent any more dangerous mail or other items from making their way to members of the cast.

Already, a private security company was hired by the show and they met with FBI agents to establish a protocol for inspecting all incoming mail. Part of the modus by the security team is that they’re required to wears gloves so any evidence in question is not contaminated.

The functions of the security team include to flag threatening, incoming mail and alert the FBI, and to possibly link new items to the letter Jussie already received, which contained homophobic and racists epithets along with an image of a noose.

Smollett has since returned back to filming new episodes of the show after he was attacked by two men while leaving a restaurant in Chicago. They reportedly hurled racist and homophobic slurs at him before pouring bleach on his face and putting a noose around his neck.
