Nollywood actress Funke Adesiyan has been appointed a special assistant to First Lady Aisha Buhari.
She is to assist Mrs Buhari on Domestic and Social Events, a significant boost to the actress’ political career.
The appointment was announced via a statement by Suleiman Haruna, the director of information to the First Lady following approval by the president.
The statement published on the website of the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture also shows that five other special assistants were also appointed alongside.
This is not the first Funke will be hobnobbing with politicians.
She was the southwest coordinator for Mallam Shekarau’s presidential bid during the 2011 general elections.
Funke was also a former PDP member but crossed over to APC in 2018 in time for the local elections. She then won the APC primary election for the Ibadan South East 2 constituency in a bid to join the Oyo State House of Assembly.
Funke Adesiyan has been a visible supporter of the first lady and frequently posts about her. For instance, during the first lady’s last birthday in February, Funke sent her a public message on Instagram, writing:
“A fighter. A strong woman. A true Muslim. Happy birthday to a leader of the modern Muslim woman. Thank you so much Excellency for being whom and what you are Ma.”
With her status as an actress, social media visibility and active participation in APC politics, Funke’s appointment would not really be a surprise to her fans.
Also, the appointment, no doubt, will give some momentum to her political career.
Meanwhile, the actress has not reacted publicly to the appointment.
Congratulations to Funke on her appointment.
