Recall that in 2019, when the nominations were released, Burna Boy made it to the nominations list with his ‘African Giant’ album, alongside Angelique Kidjo, and many others.
2019 was an amazing year for the musical artist who joined the music industry in 2010, and his album, ‘African Giant’ has brought him more fame than ever.
The album was so successful that it is now the most-streamed album in Africa, as announced in 2019.
The story of the album is a funny one and inspiring too. The name ‘African Giant’ did not just come out of nowhere.
The name was coined during the 2018 Coachella when Burna was billed to perform at that year’s music festival. However, when the artist lineup was released, the singer was severely displeased.
He was unimpressed by the font size in which his name was written and took to social media to air his frustrations.
He complained about how small his name appeared on the poster and urged organizers to “fix things quick please”.
“I don’t appreciate the way my name is written so small on your bill. I am an AFRICAN GIANT and will not be reduced to whatever that tiny writing means. Fix things quick please,” he wrote on Instagram.
After that, he released his album, which he titled ‘African Giant’ and saw him prove his earlier claims.
If anything, Burna Boy hs taught us to unapologetically demand our due with all the confidence we can muster. Now, the singer is on the verge of winning a Grammy.
He also took to his Twitter account to share a tweet that hints at his already winning the award. He wrote: “Can you keep a secret?……..”

Meanwhile, Nigerians have gone on social media to praise the singer and tip him to win the Grammys. Many have declared that if the singer does not win the award, then they will ‘cancel’ the awards show.
