Today marks the end of the 14 days lockdown the President placed on Abuja, Lagos and Ogun state due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which is known as coronavirus and he is ready to address the Nation again today, 13th April by 7 pm.
President Muhammadu Buhari is set to make an announcement on if there will be an extension of the enforced lockdown in two states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, on Monday, April 13, 2020.
Lagos remains the epicentre of the virus, recording 176 of Nigeria’s 323 confirmed cases, as of April 12, while the FCT follows with 56 cases.
The initial lockdown is set to end at 11 pm today. Although, there are speculations that the lockdown might be extended.
During his Easter message over the weekend, the president hinted that restrictions will last as long as needed but he didn’t directly address the topic of extension.
In direct response to the speculations that have grown online with the approaching deadline, the president’s media aide, Bashir Ahmad, said on Monday that the president will soon address the issue.
Many have expressed fears that an extension will only worsen the situation in a country where almost half the population, estimated at around 200 million, is considered to be among the world’s poorest. Some are currently complaining on social media about the lack of food.
“Television, radio and other electronic media outlets are enjoined to hook up to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) respectively for the broadcast,” the president’s aide says.
President @MBuhari will broadcast to the nation on Monday, April 13, 2020 at 7pm.
Television, radio and other electronic media outlets are enjoined to hook up to the network services of @NTANewsNow and @radionigeriahq for the broadcast.
