This week, several interesting things happened everywhere; from Twitter streets to Instagram, to the wildest statements that some people made while thinking it was all right.
In case you missed it, here are the top stories this week, from Sidomex Entertainment to you.
On Sunday, Big Brother Naija’s Khafi celebrated her thirtieth birthday. She’d been counting down to it since when she was in the house. Even after she got out, she started her birthday celebrations ten days to the date.
This was not what made this so juicy though. Her birthday message from Gedoni, who was her love interest in the Big Brother Naija house made it all the sweeter. And did you see the flower arrangements he laid out for her? Check out that story here!
In a disappointing turn of events, Genevieve Nnaji’s Lionheart was disqualified from the Oscars race. The movie had been entered for the ‘Best International Film’ feature but was disqualified because it had too much English. Many celebrities also reacted to the news, and some of them were not on Lionheart’s side.
A more uplifting story is that Burna Boy was declared the winner of the 2019 MTV EMAs Best African Act in an award ceremony that took place in faraway Seville, Spain. Burna beat competition from the likes of Teni the Entertainer (Nigeria), Nasty C (South Africa), Prince Kaybee (South Africa), Toofan (Togo) and Harmonize (Tanzania) to clinch the title.
In the spirit of the win, we also compiled a list of the 10 African artists to have ever won the MTV EMAs Best African Act. You can watch below.
What was perhaps the most surprising and buzzy news all over the world was Rapper TI’s statement that he follows his daughter to the gynecologist every year to make sure that she still has a hymen.
His words: “Have I? We go…Deyjah’s 18, just graduated high school, now she’s attending her first year of college, figuring it out for herself. And, yes, not only have we had the conversation…we have yearly trips to the gynaecologist to check her hymen.”
He made the statement while speaking on the Ladies Like Us podcast. TI’s statements caused such an uproar all around the world, even from celebrities like Chrissy Tiegen and Iggy Azalea, that the podcast hosts, Nazanin Mandi and Nadia Moham came forward to apologise. Whew!
Away from that, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is in Nigeria! He’d previously announced that he would take a tour of four African countries, and now he’s started, with Nigeria being his first stop.
While Jack trended on Twitter following the announcement that he’d landed in Nigeria, he failed to grab the top spot. This is because Tacha, who trends effortlessly almost every day, grabbed the top spot for herself thanks to her Titans.
She is currently in Port Harcourt, representing as the city’s first daughter while reconnecting with her roots and her fans there.

The best thing happened, thanks to Jack’s visit to Nigeria. If you’re a regular user of Twitter, you’ve definitely seen someone mention @quotedreplies. Well, the founder of that is Nigerian, Dara Oladosu, and he was offered a job at the Twitter HQ to further develop his work. How cool is that?
