277 People Are Confirmed Dead With 300 Lying In Hospitals, After Twin Bomb Attacks In Somalia.

It has been a sad week’s beginning in Mongadishu in Somalia after a set of bombs reduced many buildings in the densely populated city to rubbles and ruins and left 277 people (and counting) dead with 300 survivors in hospitals across the country.

The first bomb exploded and was followed minutes later by another car bomb, the blast affected the Qatar embassy and injured the embassy’s charge d’affaires and the death toll is sadly expected to mount as many more bodies are being pulled out of the debris of collapsed buildings in the city.

The security forces were said to be pursuing one of the vehicles after identifying it through a tipoff before it exploded and so far, there has been no group that has come forward to claim responsibility for what is obviously a terror attack.

Michael Keating who is the United Nations secretary-General for Somalia has condemned the attack and the office of the President announced that there was to be three-day mourning on Sunday with the country’s flag lowered to half mast. Information minister also mentioned that there were 40 among the injured whose injuries are too severe and were to be flown out to Turkey for treatment that cannot be afforded in Somalia.
