The Catalan Parliament chamber voted to form the Catalan Republic and independent sovereign state as a separate body away from the Spanish government.
This move came after Madrid government moved to seize control of the region and forcefully try to stop their moves for an independence.
The crisis reached a head after the Catalan parliament held a referendum despite calls from the Madrid government to not go ahead with the plan.
There were massive cheers as people took to the streets waving the Catalan flag in happiness after it was revealed that 70 members of the parliament were in favor of the separation as against 10 in favor of staying.
The storm keeps brewing in Spain as the world awaits Madrid’s next move.
