Instagram user @pretty_ursula has a growing fashion business. According to her story, she was recently contracted as a supplier to one of the big supermarkets on the Island. To enable her to fulfil an order by her new client, she decided to hire a driver, as she doesn’t yet has the necessary qualifications to drive herself. After a series of interviews, she settled on one of the applicants who claimed to has 5-10 years of driving experience.
However, on the first day of the job, it became obvious that the “experienced” driver was inexperienced. His hand was shaking his reckless speeding caused him to hit a tricycle and a pregnant lady. A lot of damage was caused and passers-by offered assistance. The pregnant lady was rushed to the hospital, and thankful she was all right.
Ursula ended her story extolling people to be grateful for being alive: “if you are alive today just kneel down and thank God because God loves you so much,” she said.
Thoughts!
A lucky escape but definitely, the recruitment process was flawed. It would have been better to hire professionals recruiters conduct the hiring of a new driver for the businesswoman. Failing that, the least would have been to request the applicants to demonstrate their driving skills – think: things like how long they have been in possession of a driving license, test driving and knowledge of road safety rules, reference from previous employees are some of the basics as far as a driving job is concerned. Hopefully, this is a valuable lesson for everyone.
