Clothing giant H&M issues apology over racist ad

Popular clothing outlet H&M has apologised over its racial ad that called a young black boy a monkey.

The company issued the apology on its Twitter account saying it agrees “many people are upset about the image of the children’s hoodie.” It also stated that it will be investigating the matter, noting that “it obvious that our routines haven’t been followed properly.” It further assured that it has not only removed the image from all “our channels, but also the product from our product offering.”

The caused widespread outrage when the image of a young boy on their site surfaced online. In the image, the young was seen wearing a hoodie that reads: “coolest monkey in the jungle.”

The insensitive ad provoked a strong reaction, with many calling for a boycott of the brand, hence the apology.

How much of the apology was sincere and how much of it was a gimmick to preserve patronage from customers is something we cannot tell. But we guess, we just have to take them at their word.
