Coronavirus in Nigeria update

Nigeria has recorded an additional 649 coronavirus cases according to the latest data released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The NCDC made the revelation during its nightly update on coronavirus in Nigeria via its Twitter handle on the 24th of June.

According to the Centre, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country now stands at 22,020. The centre also stated that 7,613 COVID-19 patients have recovered and been discharged from isolations centres across the country. COVID-19 is the disease caused by the coronavirus, known formally as SARS-Cov-2.

Meanwhile, 542 people have died from COVID-19 related complications. This means that the active number of confirmed coronavirus infections in Nigerians as of the night of Wednesday 24th June 2020 was 13,865

Taking to it’s Instagram page, NCDC tweets: “649 new cases of #COVID19:

Lagos-250, Oyo-100, Plateau-40, Delta-40, Abia-28, Kaduna-27, Ogun-22, Edo-20, Akwa Ibom-18, Kwara-17, FCT-17, Enugu-14, Niger-13, Adamawa-13, Bayelsa-7, Osun-6, Bauchi-6, Anambra-4, Gombe-3, Sokoto-2, Imo-1, Kano-1 

22,020 cases, 7,613 discharged, 542 deaths

In a follow-up tweet, the NCDC shared data on the distribution of the disease across the states. Lagos State remains the epicentre of the disease with 9,323 cases. The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja is second with 1,622 cases, while Kano State is third with 1,191 cases. Cross River is the only state that has not recovered any confirmed case.
