FG declares Monday and Tuesdays public holidays in Nigeria

The Federal Government (FG) of Nigeria has declared Monday, 25 May and Tuesday, 26 May as public holidays.

Muslims in the country celebrated the Eid-ul-Fitr celebration, which marks the end of the month of Ramadan and to commemorate the occasion, the FG gave Nigerians two days to celebrate.

In a statement released by the Director of Press, Mohammed Manga on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, the FG disclosed the news.

In the statement, Aregbesola celebrated with all Muslim adherents on the successful completion of the yearly fast in the month of Ramadan.

The Minister urged Muslims to emulate the kindness, love, tolerance, peace and good neighbourliness, as exemplified by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon Him).

Aregbesola also spoke about the rise of ethnic conflicts that have been happening in some parts of Northern Nigeria recently.

He appealed to Nigerians to see themselves as a single entity and learn to tolerate one another despite ethnic and religious differences.
