It’s becoming a familiar tale and one brings grief to families of the affected victims.
In what is beginning to look like a normal thing, a graduating student of Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State, has been killed by a stray bullet from a vigilante group. Uloko Lawrenta Apaume was fatally by a vigilante group hired to secure the students’ residence on Friday, November 3, 2017.
The landlord of the Banking and Finance graduate had invited vigilantes to the hostel to secure the place for the celebration of HND graduates. However, during the celebration, a member of the vigilantes shot into the air and the dead was hit by a stray bullet and died instantly. She wrote her final paper just a day before.
This news comes after similar news have been reported in the media. This is the third of such cases in two weeks where stray bullets from security operatives have hit innocent bystanders. We previously reported the case of a father of two who was just dead by stray bullets from the members of the Nigeria custom. That tragic event took place in Ogun State. Yet in another incident, a newly wedded young man is at the risk of having his legs amputated after he was hit by a stray bullet from two policemen fighting with the guns on in Abuja.
Terrible situation all around. Something drastic needs to be done about this devastating tragic incidences. Who knows who the next victim might will be or where and when it will occur?
