Libya slave trade: Nigerian writer johnny Jam Jam slams media, celebrities for keeping quiet

In a post that certainly calls for reflection on our values and moral judgement as a Nation, writer Johnny Jam Jam thinks our silence betrays us as insensitive and unconcerned regarding human trafficking and slave trading going on in Libya.

The writer expressed his disappointment on his Instagram account, where he noted that it took a foreign news agency to reveal the atrocities going on in Libya. Even following the CNN exposé on the ongoing slave trade in Libya, nothing was heard about it in the Nigeria local media. It was only after US singer Chris Brown shared the gruesome images on his social media account did our own celebrities pick on. The social media was instead more concerned with trivial and gossip, and ignored important social issues that affect the life and wellbeing of Nigerians.

The writer also slammed traditional media agencies and investigative journalists whose silence on the Libya slave trading was deafening.

Furthermore, the writer noted some social problems going on in many parts of the country and wondered whether the media are waiting for foreign news agencies to expose the ills.

In concluding the writer called Nigerians hypocrites pretending to be angry who will soon forget the Libya issue in a few days, citing as a reference the case of Chibok Girls, and Yola Boys Kidnapping.

I’m very bitter this morning and I can’t pull a directional pinpoint on the source of my bitterness.
.1. That CNN broke out this report 2 weeks ago running it continuously, yet everyone went about like it’s none of their business. During the 2 weeks, SM (social media) Nigeria has talked about the arrest of a cross-dresser, brought their ‘expertise’ on the ongoing duel between two artists, focused on a celebrity couple wedding like their lives depend on it but ignored the problems of their own brothers. Priorities amatch!
.2. That it took an International News agency CNN to uncover the story of OUR OWN PEOPLE, RIGHT AT OUR OWN BACKYARD, ON OUR OWN SOIL while News agencies in Africa sit & watch like the cowards and bags of shame they’ve always been? Ok!
.

3. That it took a foreign celebrity (the reason it’s viral today) to share this picture before OUR own celebrities thought it wise to do same? Hmmm!
.

4. That long before now, the EU has been doing all it can to curb illegal immigration yet our own African leaders are biologically remorseless & negligent. Sadly, just like the people they lead!
.

5. That the newest scam in the Nigerian Media today is “I am an OAP”. WHERE ARE AFRICA’S INVESTIGATIVE JOURNALISTS?? #OverratedBunch!
.

6. What are NTA, Silverbird, AIT, Cool FM, (where a dubious Brain Freeze, so-called “Leader of Sheeps” work), Beat FM, PUNCH, ALL OF THEM waiting for? Oh! for BBC or CNN to come report the issue of Baby Factories rampant in Eastern Nigeria? Overpopulation & drug abuse in North, rampant ritual killings/cultism in South-West? Who will launch a full-scale investigation into the daily killings of Nigerians in South East Asia? #NoFurtherComment!
.

7. That WE ARE ALL HYPOCRITES TRYING TO JOIN THE TREND OF “CONCERNED” & “AGGRIEVED” AND NOT BECAUSE WE ARE GENUINELY ANGRY. IN 1-2 WEEKS (AS USUAL), EVERYONE WILL GO BACK TO THEIR BUSINESSES LIKE NOTHING EVER HAPPENED. Chibok Girls? Baga Massacre? Yola Boys Kidnap?
.

Before you point your fingers at me…I have written TWICE about this issue BEFORE & AFTER CNN reported it. CHECK MY TIMELINE!! #SAVEYOURBITTERNESSFORYOURGOVT
