Stanbic IBTC and Zenith Bank have received orders from members of the Senate to unfreeze the bank accounts of the ex-President’s wife. The panel of the Committee on Ethics, Privilege and Public Petitions issued the order on Wednesday.
The panel also criticized the actions that the EFCC have been taking in recent times as the Commission was accused of only handing court orders to freeze accounts but did not give out the orders to unfreeze them even when the court has made such orders.
Senator Sam Anyanwu also said that the Banks use that opportunity to use the customer’s money in business and are always reluctant to open the account when they were given counter orders to unfreeze them.
The EFCC have been mentioned as writing a letter of appeal to the banks to violate the order to unfreeze the accounts and the Senators asked the banks on what basis were they taking the actions of refusing a court order.
