The attempt was discovered by intelligence officials Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS) in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The suspect, 33-year-old woman, Fatima Balogun, told officials that she had hidden the phone in a cooler of stew meant for her boyfriend, identified as Ganiyu Ajibode who is serving time for robbery. However, the attempt was discovered at the gate of the Abeokuta Maximum Prisons in Ibara.
The suspect who lives in Lagos said she had hidden the phone, wrapped in a plastic bag, in the stew, because “I know they will not allow me to take it to him in the prison.”
The Controller of Prisons, Ogun State command, CP Benson Abolade said the action was a threat to national security. She is being charged with trafficking in prison, which the controller said was against the Prison operation.
