“You want make I divide myself into two? Another police dey there” – Police to a victim of robbery and knife attack

Mom of three, Oki Adejoke, just narrated a harrowing experience on a Lagos bridge and how the police rebuff her plea for assistance.

The incident took place in October but the mom explained that it is just now that she can bring herself to speak about it. She and her sister-in-law were returning from a function when they were attacked on Eko bridge by hoodlums who had smashed the car windows and demanded her purse and mobile phones, while repeatedly stabbing her. Her arm, thighs and stomach were all gutted by the attack and it was only by the intervention of another motorist who rammed their car against the robbers was she saved from a further ordeal.

There was a police vehicle a few meters ahead, which they approached and narrated the incident to the men in the car.

Then comes the inconceivable. After telling their story, one of the ‘officers’ replied: “You want make I divide myself into two? Another police dey there.” This from an officer who had sworn under oath to guide and protect the citizenry. What a shame!

The lady also expressed deep concern about the aftermath of the knife attack and wondered “Who knows what the knife he used on me could be carrying? Can’t think.” Poor soul.
