Mompha is an Instagram big boy, known for flaunting expensive wristwatches and cars on social media. He is also friends with Nigerian musicians and actors in high places.
Recall that Mompha was arrested a few weeks ago at the international airport in Abuja after reportedly fleeing Dubai.
Following his arrest, his Instagram account was taken down and his alleged accomplice was arrested at his apartment in Eko Atlantic.
Now, Mompha has, through his lawyer, filed a fundamental rights case against the EFCC.
He accused the EFCC of keeping him beyond the constitutionally acceptable period without charging him to court and is asking for five million naira in damages.
In a 20-paragraph supporting affidavit, one Olumuyiwa Ajidagba claims that “the applicant (Mompha) has been subjected to physical, mental and psychological torture in the underground cell of the EFCC’s detention centre.”
He is also asking the court to prevent the EFCC or anyone related to acting on their behalf to arrest him with relation to the subject of the suit without full recourse to the law, Sahara Reporters is reporting.
Just like every other sensationalist news, social media users are both surprised and amused by this turn of events.
They turned to Twitter to share their reactions. See some of them below:
Y’all remember that my thread on Mompha’s arrest where i said Mompha intentionally gave himself up to EFCC in Nigeria after running away from Interpol in Dubai?
Looks like i was right.
Now he is suing EFCC for damages.

No! As a lawyer I’m telling you Mompha is right for suing EFCC for wrongful detention.Constitutionally you can’t detain someone for more than 48 hours without charging him to Court. Its a violation of your constitutional rights enshrined in chapter 4 of the Constitution of the FRN https://t.co/bdiPhnhiq8
