Boondocks officially coming back to TV screens | Get the scoop on Sidomex

After years of speculation and rumours, The Boondocks is officially returning with Aaron McGruder, thanks to Sony.

Sony has confirmed that The Boondocks is returning with a new television show, and original creator Aaron McGruder is on board.

According to Variety, the Boondocks reboot “chronicles the battles of the Freeman family against the evil local government tyrant Uncle Ruckus, who rules fictional Woodcrest County, Maryland, with an iron fist.”

The beloved animated comedy ran for four seasons from 2005-2014 on Adult Swim, although the fourth and final season was produced without McGruder’s involvement following scheduling disputes with Adult Swim.

Currently, there is no official word on what characters will be brought back or if the original cast has been tapped to reprise their voiceover roles. During his appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, John Witherspoon hinted that he would be part of the new season.

“I’m on the cartoon—what is it? The Boondocks? I didn’t change my voice for The Boondocks,” Witherspoon says when explaining his ‘Grandad’ character to Rogan. “And they coming back: The Boondocks is coming back. … It’s one of the best cartoons I’ve ever been on.”
