Kunle Afolayan’s Mokalik now available on Netflix

Fans can now stream Kunle Afolayan’s acclaimed film, Mokalik, on Netflix after the streaming giant made the film available on its platform.

This comes after Afolayan revealed back in July at the French-Nigerian Cinema Days that Netflix has acquired the film for its platform.

Mokalik, which stars singer Simi in her first acting role, is entirely shot in the Yoruba language. The film follows Ponmild, an 11-year-old boy who is sent by his middle-class parents to work at a mechanic workshop for a day. In the course of this apprenticeship, he develops a crush on Simi’s characters — daughter of one of the bukka owners in the film.

Afolayan announced the inclusion of the film in Netflix’s catalogue via a post on Instagram.

The filmmaker uploaded an image showing his films that are available for streaming on Netflix. He captions the image:”@goldeneffectspictures@kaptelevision Our catalog on @netflixfilm @netflixmena

With the acquisition, Netflix continues with its plan to add content from Africa to its catalogue, something Nigerian filmmakers are currently taking advantage of.
