This week, we’re checking out the highly anticipated ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ movie, whose original animated movie was adapted from a video game.

It is a kid-targeted animated movie which features Sega’s iconic Sonic character. While it is recommended for children aged eight and above, adults can also enjoy the movie, and the brilliantness of its villain, who is played by Jim Carrey.
It stars Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic the Hedgehog and Jim Carrey as Doctor Robotnik, as well as James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally, and Neal McDonough.
Here’s what the movie is about: Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz) is on the run in rural Montana from Dr. Ivo Robotnik (Jim Carrey). Robotnik wants to steal Sonic’s supersonic speed powers to take over the world.
With the help of local cop Tom ‘Donut Lord’ Wachowski (James Marsden), Sonic takes off to evade his captor. Naturally, he gets into plenty of mischief along the way.
The film has been trailed by some controversy though. When the first trailer for the film was released in May 2019, fans took up arms on social media, calling out the makers of the film for making Sonic look too much like a real human boy.
Fans particularly attacked the extra human-like teeth that Sonic was drawn with. In fact, the only things that indicated that it was Sonic were his blue skin and the bushy hair on his back.
The film’s director, Jeff Fowler, took the criticism well, and apologized for the error, assuring fans that the character would be fixed. He was again debuted looking like his old self, to the relief of fans.
Early reviews have come in and described the movie as “fun”, with the main character, Sonic described as “easy to love”.
The most loved character from the movie, however, is Dr. Robotnik, played by Jim Carrey. The movie seems to be wholesome and interesting without being too heavy.
