Chelsea cleared to hold talks with Derby manager, Frank Lampard

Chelsea FC has been given the nod to speak to Derby boss, Frank Lampard about their vacant managerial role.

The Chelsea legend who spent 13 years as a Chelsea player is in line to replace Maurizio Sarri after the Italian returned to his homeland with Juventus.

A statement released by Derby County website says: “Derby County Football Club can confirm that they have granted permission for Chelsea Football Club to speak to Frank Lampard about the vacant managerial position at Stamford Bridge.”

The Blues would have to pay the Rams about £4m if they appoint Lampard.

“With pre-season fast approaching for both clubs, it is hoped this will allow Chelsea to swiftly conclude their discussions.”

“The club will make no further comment until it is appropriate to do so,” the statement concludes.

41-year-old Lampard embarked on his first campaign as a manager last season, leading the Rams to the Championship play-off final where they lost to Aston Villa.

If the deal is sealed in coming days, The Former England midfielder will inherit a transfer embargo after Chelsea were given a two-window transfer ban by the world governing body FIFA – a decision the club are appealing against at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The former Chelsea midfielder made 648 Chelsea appearances, winning 11 major trophies with the blues.
