Cristiano Ronaldo once again was the center of attention as he scored two penalties for Juventus who survived a scare to move eight points clear at the top of Serie A.
The goals earned them earned a draw with visitors Atalanta, who controlled long periods of the game and went ahead twice in Turin, via Duvan Zapata and Ruslan Malinovskiy.
But Ronaldo took his tally to 28 goals in 28 league games scoring his second penalty in the 90th minute.
Second-placed Lazio who played earlier fell to a shock 2-1 home defeat by Sassuolo.
Atalanta have scored 19 goals more than any other side in Italy’s top flight this season and twice appeared on course to move up to the second place on the table with a 10th straight win.
Alejandro Gomez’s clever turn and pass released Zapata to open the scoring – with the Colombian fending off Matthijs de Ligt and then sliding his shot past Juve goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.
Juventus were presented their first penalty of the match when Marten de Roon’s handball allowed Ronaldo score from the spot for his first goal of the evening.
Malinovskiy’s low drive saw Gian Piero Gasperini’s side regain the initiative but Ronaldo, who was quiet throughout, converted his second penalty of the night after another handball – this time from Luis Muriel – to rescue a point for Maurizio Sarri’s side.

Napoli 2 – 2 AC Milan
AC Milan, who came from two goals down to win against Juventus in the midweek fixture, could not draw inspiration from the same source on Sunday. They could only manage to avoid a loss to Napoli, thanks to goals from Theo Hernandez and Franck Kessie, to extend their recent unbeaten run.
Napoli went ahead twice in the game courtesy of goals from Di Lorenzo (34th minute) and Dries Mertens (60th minute). AC Milan fought back to salvage a draw and also had Alexis Saelemaekers sent off in the 87th minute of the game for a bad foul, which earned him his second yellow card of the match.
Lazio 1-2 Sassuolo
Second-placed Lazio slumped to a third successive defeat in the Serie A title race as they were beaten 2-1 at home by midtable Sassuolo in stifling heat at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday.
Half-time substitute Francesco Caputo headed in from point-blank range in stoppage time as the visitors hit back after trailing at halftime.
Lazio took the lead in the 33rd minute when Manuel Lazzari found the energy to run half the length of the pitch and cross to Luis Alberto who, after a heavy first touch, managed to score despite Manuel Locatelli’s challenge.
But Sassuolo replied seven minutes after the restart when Caputo got free on the right, rolled the ball to Raspadori and the 20-year-old was this time able to celebrate his first Serie A goal.
The ball was swung in from the left, Gian Marco Ferrari got up at the far post and headed the ball across goal for Caputo to nod into the net.
Genoa 2-0 SPAL
Goals from Goran Pandev and Lasse Schone sends Genoa past SPAL as the visitors were second best in all departments on the night.
Cagliari 0-0 Lecce
It was a drab encounter lacking any form of excitement at the Sardegna Arena, home to Cagliari, as the post denied Lecce a vital three points in the encounter.
Fiorentina 1-1 Hellas Verona
Patrick Cutrone cancelled out Faraoni’s tremendous goal with 95th-minute leveller as Fiorentina rescued a late draw at home to Hellas Verona.
The striker on loan from Wolves was the man most-talked about after the game instead of Davide Faraoni, who had scored a stunner to put Verona ahead.
Fiorentina dogged a frantic end to the Serie A season as that goal proved very vital in ensuring the stay clear of relegation waters.
Parma 2-2 Bologna
Parma and Bologna’s game ended in a dramatic fashion as the home side plotted a successful injury-time comeback to salvage a draw from the game.
Bologna started things off with Danilo opening the scoring only three minutes into the contest after he was set up by Riccardo Orsolini.
Roberto Soriano then doubled the Red and Blues’ lead with a fine finish in the 16th minute following a timely pass from Takehiro Tomiyasu
Jasmin Kurtic brought Parma back into contention with a powerful header, leaving Bologna goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski with no chance.
Roberto Inglese then completed the comeback for the Crusaders, tapping home from close range from Riccardo Gaglio cross.
Udinese 1-3 Sampdoria
Udinese was unlucky not to manage to get a point at home to Sampdoria as loss of concentration late in the game cost them two goals. The match ended 1-3 in favour of the visitors.
Kevin Lasagna put the hosts in front in the 37th minute only for Fabio Quagliarella to equalise for Fiorentina in first-half added time.
Two late goals from Federico Bonazzoli (84) and Manolo Gabbiadini (90+3′) sent the visitors away with all three points.
Brescia 0-3 Roma
Fazio, Fabio Kalinic, and Zaniolo all score as Roma put up a strong and dominant performance to beat Brescia away with 0-3 win.
