Serena Williams – US Open
Yesterday, tennis superstar Serena Williams marked a major milestone in her playing career after she clocked a 100 single wins in US Open competitions.
Serena reached the milestone after she decisively beat China’s Qiang Wang 6-1 6-0 in just 44 minutes during their quarter-final match in the ongoing US Open taking place at the Flushing Meadows, New York City.
She joins the ranks of Martina Navratilova, Chris Evert and Roger Federer – the only other players to have reached the landmark of winning 100 single matches at the championship.

Serena won her first Grand Slam exactly 20 years ago in New York City. And has since won an additional 22 more Grand Slams. She is currently chasing to tie Australians Margaret Court’s wins of 24 Grand Slam.

Serena, who goes into the championship eight-seeded will play fifth-seed Elina Svitolina in the semi-finals on Thursday 5th September.
“She’s had a great year,” says Serena of Elina. “She made the semis at Wimbledon and I feel she wants to go one step further, so I feel I’ll have to come out and play really well.”
