World Cup News: Messi disappoints as Argentina draw Iceland

The intense matchup between the underdogs, Iceland, and World Cup favourites Argentina has unexpectedly ended in a draw.

Could Messi have made the difference? YES.

The match was not without its twists and turns. Aguero put one past the Icelandic keeper in the 19th minute via a left-foot strike. Shortly after, Iceland replied with a goal from Finnbogason in the 23rd minute.

Moving forward it was drama all the way. Messi had several chances to be the hero like his counterpart Ronaldo (who by the way scored a hat-trick against Spain yesterday) but nothing seemed to have worked for him.

The world of football paused and watched as Messi took and missed a spot kick, beautifully saved by Hannes Thor Halldorsson.

Argentina is still expected to top their group, but what does this mean for their confidence?

Messi was persistent, winning and taking a few free kicks but it just wasn’t his day. Messi couldn’t deliver, and you could see the frustration all over his face.

Just like Ronaldo, Messi also had a free kick in the final minutes of the match but unfortunately for him, he couldn’t convert it.

Whichever way you view it, one thing is certain. This is not the best time to be a Messi fan.

He did his very best, but in football when you do your best and can’t help your team win, then your best doesn’t really count for anything.

Nigeria faces Croatia later today by 8 pm in what is expected to be a very interesting match.
