R Kelly’s second trial date set in New York as singer is denied bail

The date for R. Kelly‘s second trial on sex abuse charges in New York has been set for May 2020.

This comes after the singer, 52, was denied yet another bail. His lawyer, Steve Greenberg, had in Wednesday, 2 October asked the court to grant the singer bail on health grounds.

The embattled RnB singer is standing charges on multiple sex-related offences including trafficking, coercion, physical abuse and sex with underage girls.

He denies all charges.

His lawyer says R Kelly is suffering from anxiety, an untreated hernia and numbness in one of his hands. According to a filing submitted to a New York court, Attorney Greenberg argues that the singer “is not presently receiving adequate medical care.

CBS News reports that the submission for a bail request was rejected as Judge Ann Donnelly agrees with the opposition that R. Kelly is a flight risk and a potential threat to witnesses.

His New York trial is has been set for 20 May 2020. According to the judge, the proceeding is expected to last about three weeks.

The trial is the second he will face after a Chicago trial that will hold in April 2020.
